Favorite Places: Sally Mountain- Jackman, Attean TWP- 1000' elev gain. Hike through woods to open ledges that has views of a lake and forest. 1 1/4 miles base to summit. Bingham Esker- Bingham- 30 yard high esker with ridges & kettle holes. Kennebec River Gorge- Lake Moxie, Moxie Gore TWP, West Forks, The Forks TWP- River passes turbulently through V shaped 10 mile gorge. Depth 80 yards. Accessible only by whitewater raft (experienced only). Logging roads. No trails. Houston Brook Falls- Moscow, Houston Brook, Pleasant Ridge- 5 drops with lower fall is 10 yards. Swimming & trail. Grand Falls- Dead River- Horseshoe falls and old dam. Road access and canoe route. Moxie Falls- The Forks, Moxie Stream, Moxie Gore- One of the highest falls in Maine with a drop of 30 yards. Trails. Cold Stream Falls- West Forks, Cold Stream, Johnson Mtn TWP- Perpendicular falls, gorge, stonework, old road & remains of a bridge. The Falls- Dennistown, Sandy Stream, Sandy Bay TWP- Bedrock cleavage with a drop of 15 yards. Heald Stream Falls- Dennistown, Heald Stream, Bald Mtn TWP- Falls have a series of ledge drops (6 yards). Recreation: Appalachian Trail- The Forks- 2100 mile national hiking trail. Trail located near Pleasant Pond Mountain. Dead River- The Forks- 16 mile trip offers continuous Class III-V whitewater. ITS- The Forks- Snowmobile trail linking central Maine with the Moosehead Lake region. Kennebec River- The Forks- 12 mile whitewater run. Upper Gorge section has class III & IV rapids. Bow Trip- Jackman, Moose River- 46 mile canoe trip. ITS 86 & 89- Jackman, Moose River- Trails link to Quebec, Katahdin/ Moosehead, The Forks, Eustis & Rangeley. Jackman to Rockwood Trail- Jackman, Moose River- 30 mile mountain bike trail runs rail beds, ITS snowmobile trails & old gravel logging roads.. |

Wyman Dam- Moscow- 1920s, Produced hydroelectric power. Harris Station- The Forks- Maine's largest generating hydroelectric dam. Moxie Falls- The Forks- One of Maine's highest waterfall witha 96' drop. Located 2 miles north of The Forks. US Route 201- State Scenic Highway alongthe Kennebec River.
