Historic Sites: Porter Bridge- Porter- Covered bridge. Porter Old Meeting House- Porter- 1828 Daniel Marrett House- Standish Village- 1789, 18th and 19th century furniture. During War of 1812 banks hide money here to keep it from the British. Old Red Chruch- Standish Village- Square towered belfry with red brick exterior. Naples Historic Society Museum- Naples- Collection includes slides of C&O Canal and the Old Sebago-Long Lake steamboats. Covered Bridge over Leavitt's Falls- Windham- Babb's Bridge the oldest covered bridge in existence.. |
Favorite Places: Douglas Mountain Preserve- Sebago- 169 acres, Views from summit. Picnicking and trails. Douglas Mountain- Sebago- 300' elev gain, Views from ledge of Presidentials, Pleasant Mt and Oxford Hills. Trails to stone lookout tower. Base to summit 1/4 mile. Hiram Nature Study Area- Hiram- 60 arces, Trails along the Saco River. Hunting & fishing. Nature tours. Mount Cutler- Hiram- Old gold mine located on trail. Views of village, Saco valley and the White Mts. RR Track to summit. 3/4 mile. Hiram Falls (Great Falls)- Hiram, Saco River- Series of falls below CMP dam and plant. 25 yard drop. Steep Falls- Standish, Saco River- 2 yard drop. Mills have occupied site. On north bank is a narrow gauge rail bed. Sebago Lake State Park- Naples - Casco- 1,300 acres along the Songo River. Lakeside park with sand beaches. Swimming, fishing, hiking, boating, boat rentals, sanck bar, picnic tables and grills. Wade State Fish Hatchery- Casco- Hatchery and rearing station for landlock salmon. Public admitted. |
